Marker Match for Prairie Protection & Habitat Expansion

July 19, 2020 | News

While the current public health situation has been sobering, it has underscored the importance of access to experience nature. MPF’s 23 protected prairies are open to all to enjoy on foot for bird watching, hiking, photography, and other nature study. Purchasing land, monitoring and treating invasive plants, executing prescribed burns, expanding prairie habitat via reconstructions, installing boundary signage, and inspecting our properties are all essential aspects of being a land trust devoted to perpetuating prairie biodiversity available for all to enjoy. Thanks to MPF lifetime members Susan Lordi Marker and her husband Dennis, we have an exciting opportunity for you to help fund this important work. This year, Susan and Dennis will match all gifts to a total of $20,000. Our goal is to raise a total of $40,000 to continue protecting irreplaceable prairies—which are critically important seed sources for future plantings—and to expand prairie habitat with plantings on MPF properties as well as those of partners. All gifts of amounts meaningful to you are gratefully accepted. For gifts of $250 or more made in honor or in memory of a loved one, a certificate can be issued to the donor’s designated recipient.

“Supporting prairie protection work is very important to Dennis and me,” said Susan. “And expanding prairie habitat and gardens to benefit pollinators and other grassland species is vital to creating the kind of future we all want to live in. Please join us in making a donation to MPF today.” To make a gift, please send a check to: Missouri Prairie Foundation, c/o Bank of Missouri, P.O. Box 856, Mexico, MO 65265-0856, and write “2020 Marker match” on the memo line, or make a tribute donation for “2020 Marker match” online at www.moprairie.org.
