Monthly giving is an effective and efficient way to support MPF. You may make monthly membership dues installments (link to the membership page) or monthly donations of any amount.
You can recognize birthdays, weddings, and other special events of your family members and friends with contributions to MPF in their honor, or remember your loved ones with a contribution in their memory. You may do so anonymously if you wish.
Donate A Gift of Securities
You may donate gifts of securities including stocks, bonds, and mutual funds directly to MPF. You can deduct the full market value of the security, saving income taxes and capital gains on appreciated securities. To make a gift of securities, please call 573-356-7828.
IRA Charitable Rollover
Taxpayers age 70.5 or older may transfer up to $100,000 annually from their IRA accounts to MPF without first having to recognize the distribution as income. To make a gift from an IRA account, please call 573-356-7828.
If you are a Missouri State Employee, you can give to MPF through workplace giving. Please enter #8426 on your pledge card during your annual Missouri State Employees Charitable Campaign.
Donations of $1,000 or more to the AcreKeeper Legacy Program will benefit immediate and long-term stewardship of MPF’s prairies—some of the most biologically rich habitat in the state. If a donor is not a member, $100 of this gift will be directed to an annual membership to MPF. If your donation is a gift, memorial, or in recognition of a special friend, customer, or relative please include that person’s name and address along with your donation so we can send a certificate to that person.
AcreKeeper donors will each receive a certificate acknowledging their gifts. Businesses making gifts to these programs can display their certificates—a great way to signal to their customers their commitment to prairie. Donations to these programs also make wonderful gifts.
Donations of $2,500 or more to MPF's AcreMaker Legacy Program will directly contribute to MPF's flexibility to acquire land to help MPF safeguard more original prairie and other grasslands before they are gone. If a donor is not a member, $100 of an AcreMaker gift will go towards an annual membership to MPF.

Make a Planned Gift
Planned giving is essentially the process of making a decision while a donor is alive to give a charitable gift upon the donor’s passing. Your annual membership and other gifts to MPF are vital to our ongoing prairie conservation work. By establishing a planned gift to MPF, you can also ensure that we can continue our work well into the future. Many types of planned gifts also offer tax benefits to the donor.
Unrestricted planned gifts allow MPF the greatest flexibility to direct your gift to the area of greatest need. Donors may also wish to restrict planned gifts to one or more of MPF's several long-term funds to support our work well into the future: Land Acquisition Fund, Prairie Stewardship Fund, Permanent Endowment Fund, and Prairie Garden Grant Fund. Donors may wish to direct a planned gift to one of these funds or for a specific purpose, such as to support production of the Missouri Prairie Journal or other educational endeavor. For more information about how to direct a planned gift that is unrestricted or to one or more of these funds or for a specific purpose, please contact MPF staff at 888-843-6739 or send a message to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Below are several ways to make a planned gift to MPF:
Create a charitable gift annuity. By establishing a charitable gift annuity to MPF while you are alive, you will decrease the size of your estate and therefore enjoy tax benefits, and also receive fixed payments for the rest of your life. Charitable gift annuities offer payment rates that are more attractive than many other investments, with the rate amount determined by your age. In addition, you have the satisfaction of knowing that your gift will benefit MPF. The Community Foundation of the Ozarks works with Mutual of Omaha to establish charitable gift annuities.
Put a bequest in your will or trust (cash, specific property, or a share of the residual estate). You will make a gift for MPF’s future that doesn’t affect your cash flow or portfolio now, but will provide an eventual estate tax deduction.
Those wishing to make a bequest to MPF may find the suggested wording helpful:
I bequeath ___% of my residuary estate (or $___) to the Missouri Prairie Foundation, a not-for-profit conservation organization, with its address at P.O. Box 200, Columbia, MO 65205 for its ongoing programs in prairie acquisitions, stewardship, and education.
Name MPF as the beneficiary of your retirement plan, leaving other assets to your family. You will eliminate income tax on your retirement plan assets.
Donate a life insurance policy whose coverage you no longer need. You will increase your ability to make a significant gift to MPF.
MPF strongly recommends that you consult an estate planning professional about the above-mentioned and any other planned giving options you may have in mind. If you have questions about specific MPF funds or MPF projects to support with a planned gift, please contact email@example.com or 888-843-6739.
