MPF Webinar: Wetlands for Native Bees

April 23 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Wetland with summer wildflowers in bloom

When you think of pollinator habitat, do wetlands come to mind? In this webinar, pollinator ecologist Molly Jacobson brings to light the importance of managed freshwater wetlands as a crucial component of the landscape for supporting our native bees. As a result of restoration and active management, these emergent wetlands have diverse flowering plant communities in late summer and fall that provide important forage for generalists and rare specialists alike. Restoring wetlands benefits not just waterfowl and wildlife, but some of our most unique native pollinators, too.

This free webinar, to be held via Zoom, will include a presentation and a live question-and-answer session. The webinar will be recorded, with a link to the recording sent to all registrants and posted to the MPF YouTube channel.

Molly Jacobson is a pollinator ecologist at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in upstate New York. There she received her M.S. in Conservation Biology in 2021, studying the effects of wetland management techniques on pollinator habitat. She is currently involved with a variety of research projects across the northeast to better understand rare specialist bees and to manage and create high quality pollinator habitat, especially in urban settings. Much of her time is also spent educating the public through outreach, or in the lab identifying bees under the microscope. She is grateful for any day she can get outside into nature and inspire others to appreciate even the smallest creatures that are all around us.
