Mark H.X. Glenshaw is an award-winning naturalist. Since December 2005 he has closely observed and documented the lives of Great Horned Owls in Forest Park; a large urban park in St. Louis, Missouri. He shares his work on his blog, “Forest Park Owls,” as well as on social media channels.

The owls and his work with them receive regular coverage from local and regional media spanning the spectrum of TV, radio, and print. The owls and Mark had their first national media coverage with an appearance in 2022 on the E! Entertainment Network.

Mark does extensive outreach work with the owls. He leads dozens of tours called owl prowls in Forest Park each year. He also gives scores of talks across Missouri, Illinois, and beyond to a wide range of organizations and institutions. Over the years he has given presentations for over 20 Audubon Society chapters, over 70 libraries as well as 6 presentations for the Smithsonian Institution.  In 2006 he was awarded the Citizen Scientist Award by the Academy of Science-St. Louis.  Mark is a Certified Interpretive Guide, a certified Missouri Master Naturalist, and a volunteer for Forest Park Forever.

A native of Washington, D.C. and the son of an American mother and South African father, he is a dual citizen of both nations. Mark has his bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in communications and journalism from Washington University in St Louis. When not studying owls, Mark works at the University of Missouri-St. Louis in the Advancement Division.
