Enjoy this free field day, hosted by landowner Doug Doughty at his farm near Chillicothe in Livingston County, Missouri. This event is organized by the Missouri Prairie Foundation and Iowa State University.
Participants will learn how to establish prairie strips (the CRP Prairie Strips practice [CP-43]) and other prairie plantings, tour the farm with prairie strips and 300+ additional acres of native prairie plantings in various stages of establishment, and learn about Horizon II, an innovative program that compensates farmers in Iowa and Missouri for harvesting winter crops and prairie plants as biomass feedstock for anaerobic digesters to produce renewable energy.
Representatives from Iowa State University, the Missouri Department of Conservation, and the Missouri Prairie Foundation will share information about the benefits of prairie strips and other prairie plantings, providing step-by-step information on site preparation, seeding, and stewardship.
Who should attend? Row crop producers and recreational landowners are especially encouraged to attend, as well as agency staff and others interested in learning about the benefits of establishing prairie strips and incorporating other native plantings in farm operations, as well as the Horizon II program.
The tour is free and a complimentary lunch is included. Directions and more details will be emailed to registrants.
This event has met capacity and registration is now closed.
